Most marble factories in Hualien provide building materials. Unfortunately, the marble industry went into a decline in recent years. Therefore, the workshop invites artists and designers to create novelty for the industry.

Since marble is a permanent material that lasts for generations, it should be utilized with sustainable awareness. With this in mind, I found it Mahjong is an ideal object for an heirloom, either for recreational purposes or cultural inheritance, the meaning lasts as the material does.

As a strategic board game, Mahjong includes a lot of number elements. The fascinating thing is, the size of your number does not dictate your chances of winning. Other unconventional elements like direction, status, signs are also being taken into account. Here are a few examples. Wan: wealth, Bing: food, Tiao: strings

There’s a saying among the elders: You can tell a person’s character just by watching them play a round or two of mahjong.

The goal of playing mahjong does indeed reflect a person’s intention on the table. Some are playing solely for the purpose of recreation, some are in for the money, while others enjoy the time spent together with friends and family.

Through the lens of this ancient board game, we witness the change in luck, the alternation of “Feng Shui”. After countless shuffles of tiles and turning tables, we slowly develop an understanding of how we cope with the ever-changing scenarios, whether in the games or real life.
